Matt Cutts: Try something new for 30 days

Not very long ago, my brother had shared this video and I really enjoyed learning about this idea.  The video talks about trying new things for 30 days.  He says how 30 days is a good amount of time to add a new habit or subtract one, or just a good amount of time to try new things.

After watching the video, I decided I wanted to attempt a few challenges.  I figured it'd be a great opportunity to make or break a few habits of mine.

For the first month, I decided to do no desserts/sweets (which was slightly crazy considering I did this around Easter time and I love Easter candy).  I was hoping by eliminating my daily desserts for a month, I'd be able to have better control.  At the beginning, it was very challenging.  I naturally wanted something sweet after I had dinner.  To help me get through those first few weeks, I found substitutes of things I could eat to help me forget about the desserts and that were a better option for me. As my 30 days came to an end, I found that I didn't think about desserts after my meals like I had before.  I can honestly say I don't crave sweets like I used to and have a lot better self control.  I also lost some weight! Yay!

That same month I also did a challenge of reading my scriptures regularly for a set amount of time.  When life gets busy, sometimes I will lay down to sleep and realize I hadn't read them all day.  By that point, I'm usually so tired I don't get anything out of my study.  For my challenge, I tried to set a time during the day when I could sit down and study without any distractions.  I also wanted a set amount of time so I wouldn't rush, but could truly focus on what I was reading.  It was a great experience and helped me to form better habits!

For this month, I started with the idea of 30 days of walking.  However, with getting sick and then getting a lot of substitute jobs, it hasn't exactly gone the way I would have liked.  I am still making sure I walk as much as possible and if anything, get some sort of workout in!

Though this is only my second month of doing these challenges, I feel like it has been a great way to work on some of my goals! Think of some goals you might want to work on and consider trying this!  I know for me it has been a great experience!
